Learn more about our Pre-Season opponents, Curzon Ashton F.C. in the latest background piece.

Based in the Greater Manchester area, Curzon Ashton was formed in 1963 following the merger of Curzon Road Methodists F.C. and Ashton Amateurs F.C.Originally going by the name of Curzon Amateurs until a name change, the club began its football journey in the Manchester League.

The Nash play their home games at the 4,000 capacity stadium called, Tameside Stadium and have been climbing the football league ladder ever since they were formed.

The early 70's saw a boom period for Curzon Ashton, starting with a runner-up finish in the Manchester Intermediate Cup in 1970/71, the club would go on to win the competition three times in a row the following seasons.

The 1973/74 campaign saw them finish runners-up in Division One, a feat they would match the year after in the Premier Division of the Manchester League. In 1978/89 Curzon Ashton became founder members of the Cheshire League Division Two, and they were once again promoted at the very first attempt.

In 1983/84 the club became founding members of a league once again; this time the North West Counties League, however, the club failed to gain promotion straight away and went through a string of difficult seasons that saw several changes of management.

A move to the NCEL then took place in controversial fashion for Curzon, which had many questioning the football pyramid, however, the Manchester-based club struggled to make an impact in the division and was moved back west.

The turn of the century saw Curzon back to their best and gaining promotions once again and an exciting stadium change (to the current £4 million Tameside Stadium) took place at the start of the 2005/06 season.

It would take until the 2013/14 season for Curzon Ashton to win a league championship again, the first in 36 years. Although there had been several promotions during those years. Curzon successfully won the Northern Premier League and haven't looked back since, going from strength to strength.

The following campaign saw Curzon win the Play-Offs, beating Ilkstone 1-0 to secure promotion to the National League North, the second tier of the non-league pyramid and the highest the club has achieved; where they play their trade to this day.

Eccleshill United FC looks forward to welcoming them to the Mitton Group Stadium, and we hope the spectators will enjoy an entertaining game of football as both clubs prepare for the new campaign.
