The Eagles recorded a comfortable 5-1 win away at East Yorkshire Carnegie on Saturday, see what the skipper Sam Bradley made of the game.

We went into the game missing a couple of key players in Matt Mathers and Luke Harrop, but were definitely boosted by the return of Charlie Flaherty. Despite those players missing, the squad was still very strong, and we went into the game knowing a win would get us into the top six.

Our form at the moment is brilliant, and because of that we went into Saturday’s game full of confidence.

I couldn’t have asked for a better start to the game, we were playing some neat passing play, which eventually ended with a great Scott Manning strike. He looked very fit and was constantly bombing up that flank offering an extra option from wing back.

Charlie (Flaherty) proved his importance to the team, setting up the first goal with an inch perfect through ball, and then scoring the second for us. We took a commanding 3-0 lead inside 25 minutes, with the third coming from a mazy Andy Cooper run, which led to the penalty which Jonny (Irving) slotted in nicely.

People may look at the East Yorkshire Carnegie sending off and assume that had a big bearing on the game, but to be honest I think that’s unfair on us. Of course we gained an advantage playing against ten men, but we were comfortable before the red card, and throughout the game. In my opinion, the sending off didn’t change the match drastically.

The half time team talk was about us sticking to how we played in the first half, and not getting carried away. We had to ensure that we kept our shape, and kept doing the right things.

Soon after the second half started, Scott Manning was involved in another goal, this time assisting Ben Hardy with a perfect whipped cross, leaving Hardy with a tap in.

I must say we are gutted to have not kept a clean sheet, their goal came from a bit of confusion between Jermaine (Springer) and Dom (Smith), which led to an own goal.

With that being said, I have to mention that Jermaine was outstanding. He did us a favour in the first place by playing, and even though he hasn’t played for months, he was still solid all game.

We kept our tempo really well in the second half, and that ended up with us winning another penalty. Coops (Andy Cooper) stepped up for that one, and slotted it away brilliantly. All in all, it was one of our best performances to date, and one in which we could have easily scored more than five.

It was good to see the two young lads (Ethan Labad and Scott Stein) getting some game time as well, they both worked hard when they came on, and proved that the club has some real talent coming through the ranks.

My man of the match would definitely have to be Scott Manning. He performed tirelessly all game, and chipped in with a goal and an assist, a fantastic performance!

Following that win we go into Saturday’s game against Swallownest full of confidence, and we’re hoping to make it five wins on the bounce in the league.

I’d like to end by thanking the fans that made the long journey down, me and the rest of the lads appreciate the support.

See you at the game,
Sam Bradley
