Have a look at the gaffer’s thoughts on the Eagles first win of the season away from home against Athersley Recreation.

Eccleshill United recorded their first win back in the NCEL Premier Division after a 2-1 victory against Barnsley based side Athersley.

After the first three points of the season Sean Regan gave the media team an insight in to his feelings on the result, as well as the Eagles’ grit and determination they showed to come from a goal behind to win 2-1.

“We played against a tough side, to go one nil down against a side like that and then to go and show that desire which we know they've got and show that character which we know they've got as well, they showed it all last year, and you know they've done it again.” Discussed Regan.

Furthermore, this was Eccleshill United’s first game after their exit from the Emirates FA Cup, and there could have been an argument the Eagles were on the wrong side of some poor refereeing decisions, so for Sean Regan’s men was this a good game to bounce back from? He certainly thought so.

The boss said: “Yeah I think that’s a good point, it's all reaction to the defeat, but to be honest it's a must win every game, I've said it before we don't go to any game negative it's always positive as we always look to win every game.”

“At the end of the day they worked for each other and defended really well for long periods at the end of that second half so credit to them.”

After going a goal down Eccleshill pulled a goal back via Steve Hollingworth’s first goal for the club, however the star of the game was Jake Thompson who proved to be the man with the winner.

In Sean’s post-match interview, he discussed his delight in seeing Thompson getting a goal and growing with confidence;

“Really happy for him, just before the game and at half-time I just said to him look all you need to do is get your head up and as soon as you get the opportunity don't think about it, just do it when in them areas."

He added; "We always knew what he can do it's just all about him having the confidence to do that and it's proved how big a goal that was tonight!” stated Regan.

Looking ahead to Eccleshill United’s next match which is on Saturday at the Mitton Group Stadium, the gaffer gave some strong points on how their upcoming match against Worksop Town will prove to be a real tester and allow the Eagles to know whereabouts they currently are as they face real promotion contenders In the Tigers, Worksop Town.

“I think we can beat anyone in this league, but it's going to be telling us another story where we are against a side who are tipped for promotion because all we'll do generally is raise our game for each and every game so that won't ever change.

"It'll be another experience for them playing at this level playing against a team who's tipped to win the division so we'll go in to it in the positive mood we always do and see where we go with it.” Sean explained.

Great notes from Sean Regan as always, and it shall be interesting to see how Regan and his Eccleshill United team will face off when facing Worksop Town on Saturday, the Eagles will be looking to pick up their second win of the campaign.
