Eccleshill claimed their first win in September after putting five past Westella on Wednesday, read on for the gaffers reaction.

Eagles manager Sean Regan was happy to see his side return to winning ways on Wednesday evening, after they beat Westella & Willerby convincingly.

Sean stopped to reflect on the match afterwards, and when asked if that was the reaction he wanted from his players before a local derby on Saturday, he responded “That’s exactly what we needed to take into Saturday.”

“I think every single player has worked hard, but we do put ourselves under pressure, we’ve gone from 2-0 up to 2-2, and for me that showed massive character to come back from that.”

Speaking on his team giving leads up quite often, and what the cause of it is, Sean stated; “Yeah it’s definitely a lack of concentration, but another one is focus or people switching off now and then.”

He added “When you look at footballers, you can’t expect them to play every single minute of every game and be focused. We’d like to, but it’s tough for them to do that."

“The opposition are always going to get their little spell, and they did. Unfortunately it’s put us under a bit more pressure than we expected and to be fair to them, the way that they came out they did well but we know we can do better, and we did get our act together mid-way through the second half.”

Next Sean discussed the advantages of having players like man of the match Sam Bradley or goal scorer Matt Mathers, who can both play a variety of different positions;

“It tells everybody in the squad that there are players that are willing to come in and do that job, and do it well.”

“Players like Sam who we know is very controlled when he’s on the ball, he knows what he’s after, he knows what he can do, he’s got a lot of composure, and he brings that stability.”

“Plus you’ve got Matt Mathers who’s renown for being a goal scorer and we played that system to make us nice and compact, plus going forward Matt and Marcus linked quite well and they got the goals to prove that.”

Eccleshill looked good value for their win, and they will want to carry that form over into Saturday’s big home clash with Campion AFC.
