The Eagles winger spoke to the club website about his Man Of The Match performance during Eccleshill's dominant 5-0 victory over Goole.

Eccleshill United secured four wins in a row in impressive fashion at the weekend with a 5-0 victory over Goole AFC in what was the most dominant performance of the season from the squad.

After the whistle, Napoleons Casino Man Of The Match, Jake Thompson spoke about the performance and how the Eagles approached the game.

He said; "A team like Goole you can't underestimate despite where they are in the league, you take every game as it comes in this league at the end of the day it's 11 vs 11 out there. They set up quite defensively and as forwards we had to find that space and once we got our feet on the ball more and got a bit of a high tempo to the game the goals started to come after that."

Thompson spent the game linking well with new signing Adam Shaw who also found the back of the net in the game, and he spoke about what the striker has been like to play with so far.

"It's good, he's sharp and knows what he's doing and when you can read someone, me and him have sort of clicked and it's one of those things where when you have that click going the goals just follow," Thompson stated.

Next, the winger discussed the result itself, one that put down a marker and was something that the former Huddersfield Town Academy player felt was coming for the squad.

Thompson claimed; "You get your rewards, last week we dominated the game from start to finish and we came out with three points but we also came out at 3-2. People might look at that scoreline and think it doesn't reflect the game at all but today we got what we deserved."

As well as the five goals one of the biggest positives from the game was the clean sheet that the squad earned, especially for debuting goalkeeper, Ed Hall, which Thompson spoke about.

"It's massive, any keeper we have in the net all the boys put their confidence and trust into them and he demanded his area well. It's not easy to just come into games like that, he made a great save in the second half and got on the ball well and we just take confidence from that and we can repay him back and go get the goals," he said.

With Hall being another new recruit to the squad the Eagles strength in depth has become crystal clear, but for Thompson, it is something that he simply sees as a positive.

He stated; "The squad is massive and it's one of those things if you're in the starting 11 you have to prove to the manager that you deserve to have that shirt and if you're not you have to come in and make an impact. Whatever chance I get I will take, today was a good day as I got three goals."

Speaking of those three goals, the winger moved on to discuss his impressive hatrick which keeps him as the squads leading goalscorer.

He reflected; "To be fair, I am surprised! I know I have got goals in me but in the past, I've normally been the player to get the assists but it's nice to get the goals. I have a lot of confidence in me and I know I am the youngest player in the squad but that doesn't put me under any pressure, with a team like ours they make it easy for me and then it's up to me to put the chances away."

With four wins on the bounce now the squad is looking to keep the confidence building with another tough test coming up this weekend against Hemsworth Miners Welfare, but the Eagles are more than ready for the test according to the winger.

"A win is a win, we don't go into any game playing for a point. The confidence is massive at the minute, we are getting what we deserve at the minute whereas before I don't think we were getting that with draws and losses but now we are getting what we deserve. We just need to push on now and take every game as it comes," Thompson stated.
