The Eagles start 2017 off with a tough away fixture at second placed Penistone Church, who could go level on points with AFC Emley at the summit of the table with a win tomorrow.

This game takes place after a brief break for both sides, as their last league game was against each other just before Christmas, which produced an entertaining 1-1 draw. Eccleshill could count themselves unlucky following that match, as they had chances to snatch all three points.

Eccleshill have shown some quality in their last few games, despite some disappointing results, and they will go to Penistone confident that they can come away with a positive result. The whole team put in a good shift in their last game and manager Sean Regan will be looking for more of the same on Monday afternoon.

A win could see Eccleshill climb one place in the table, but more importantly they will have shown a steely resolve and quality that other teams in the league must be wary of.

For Penistone, they are mounting a serious promotion charge, but only a point separates them and third placed Grimsby Borough, so they will be aiming to take all three points and keep the pressure on the league leaders, whilst keeping themselves in an automatic promotion spot.

The last game between these two was an entertaining and at some points end to end spectacle, with big chances for either side to claim the win, but in the end a draw was a fair result. This time however it will be Penistone with the home advantage, so it can be expected to be another close game.

The Eagles only played three times in December, but started it with a win before losing to Emley then drawing with Penistone. They will be looking for a similar start to January, and a win tomorrow would revitalize the whole squad and provide a massive confidence boost to start the year with.

In the last week The Eagles have attained the services of box to box midfielder Jonathan Irving from Nostell Miners Welfare, but it looks as though he won’t be in contention for tomorrow’s game due to a small injury.

Eccleshill United will be looking for a perfect start to 2017 by going to Penistone and coming away with three points, but rest assured the home side will not make that an easy task, setting the game up to be a fiery affair.
