Named after the famous book The Antiquary by Sir Walter Scott the Antiquary Bar is a basement bar situated in St Stephen Street for around 35 years. First opened as a high class restaurant amongst Antique shops and shortly after as a popular bar. It hasn’t changed much in appearance and character over the years although going through a few changes to the layout.
The Antiquary now has a 3D SPORTS VIEWING AREA as well as normal viewing with games shown live on two big screens.
Check the blackboard beneath the main TV for scheduled events.
Originally a Georgian coach house, in the early Victorian era the building was remodelled into John Kay and Sons, Wines and spirits Merchants. Sympathetically modified in the 1970's the bar at 39 Jamaica Street hosts a plethora of original Victorian features.
