20/12/2013 - Weekly round-up from ENRFC Captain, Jason Thompson.

Northerners,

Fantastic result for the club on Saturday which I’m told is a first ever win over Trinity 1st XV. We’ve started to show unrivalled patience at ruck time when players are deciding that challenging for ball or leaning needlessly on rucks is more often than not a waste of time. The referee was impressed with the discipline of both sides which is testament to our ability to raise our game to any league opposition. Much appreciated to all involved…and to those getting together a 2nd XV game. Brilliant that a variety of clubs can come together and play some good rugby. This shows what a little commitment can achieve and I hope the days of having to refuse a fixture are behind us.

Next up is Berwick away involving a train trip on 11th January. We’re aiming for the 11.30am departure from Waverley (£7 single) and the 7.40pm departure from Berwick (£5.40 single) getting us back before 8.30pm. £22.60 for off-peak return which gives a bit of flexibility. Please don't book first class as we don't want to disturb the posh passengers! Those wanting to head on to Newcastle may organise accordingly. More on the 2nd XV Lismore fixture closer to the date.

Training over the Christmas and New Year period is as follows. Please take note as this is where we can gain advantage over other teams and there should be very few excuses to miss out during a quiet time:

Sat 21st Dec – no games/training
Tue 24th – no training
Thu 26th – no training
Sat 28th – no games/training
Tue 31st – no training
Thu 2nd – no training
Sat 4th – training, Inverleith Park, 2pm
Tue 7th – training as usual, 6.30pm
Thu 9th – training as usual, 6.30pm
Sat 11th – Berwick away, Lismore away

Tour payments should be up to date. £125 by now for those wanting to go. Flights will be booked in early January so risk missing out or buying your own more expensive flight if that total hasn’t been paid.

Thanks to all involved in making it a memorable 2013 at ENRFC: maintaining status as an East 2 club for the first time in too long, a brilliant weekend at Bournemouth 7s, 4 head coaches, a record club defeat, a first win against Trinity and 16 games before your captain wins a game with himself at the helm! Have a fantastic Christmas and New Year!
