23/1/2014 - Weekly round up from ENRFC Captain, Jason Thompson

Northerners,

I hope we can all identify the reasons for losing against a newly promoted team. Leith are a difficult side but not a team we have lost to in recent season, until now. Penalty count and defence was below standard. We need to give a team like Leith the same respect as we do Berwick. Reacting to the game on the pitch is the mark of a good rugby player and I’m afraid not enough of us were able to do this last Saturday. Apologies to the 2nd XV. The first time Inverleith Park was unplayable coincided with a pitch booking at Broughton High by BATs leaving us without a pitch last minute.

Dalkeith are bring 2 teams up in a bid to celebrate their East 2 success. This means a noon kick-off for the 2nd XV followed by a 2pm KO for the 1st XV game. Putting in a performance like we did against Berwick with an improved lineout and defence should see this become a good contest. There’s certainly nothing to fear of 15 man opposition in East 2.

Saturday evening will be a good opportunity to dawn the kilt and enjoy some quality speeches over a top notch haggis dinner, whisky and port. 7pm the evening shall get under-way so don’t be late. You may have missed the boat if you hadn’t secured a ticket before Wednesday but please contact Cameron Ritchie who may be accommodating of a few more joining the party.

Next weekend will see the Six Nations kicking off with 2 Saturday fixtures. We’ll aim to negotiate an early kick-off for the Lismore fixture with the aim of eventually getting the Bunker open in time for the France v England fixture. At least a handful of us will be in The Antiquary for Ireland v Scotland on Sunday afternoon.
