31/1/2014 - Weekly round-up by ENRFC Captain, Jason Thompson

Northerners,

A disappointing score line after good efforts until beyond half time. I’ve asked everyone to be honest with their own performances, particularly in defence where 1 on 1 tackles were missed too often. Thanks to those turning out for the 2nd XV in pretty awful conditions. A respectable score for a squad of 16, with only the numbers needing improvement. Lismore next up where a win should hopefully close out the league in a reasonable position.

Although the Broughton High School pitch hasn’t been used like that yet this season, may we remind you that alcohol consumption is prohibited on school grounds and neither should tobacco be smoked nor dogs be walked. We’ve generally maintained a good relationship with the school and look to continue this whilst at the mercy of the weather but I’ve been informed that we may have been guilty of a few offences here. While I’m confident our opponent club for the day were the main culprits (and for removing car park gates on Sunday), we must take responsibility to inform each team and be vigilant when necessary.

The club treasurer released funds for 6 match balls in November. At £35 each these are a precious asset to us. We’re now down to 2 of those. Please let me remind you that we should all take responsibility to ensure the safe return of all equipment and that in future no one should moan about taking old match balls to away games when we clearly can’t look after new balls at home.

Nick is planning a season debrief meeting at the start of training on Tuesday so please ensure you make yourself available for this (injured or fit, playing or not that week).

We’d hope to return to the Bunker for the France v England fixture on Saturday but with a return to 3pm kick off times we shall see how the afternoon goes. Still plans in the Antiquary for the Ireland v Scotland game on Sunday.
