Featuring two unlucky defeats, Stoke's proudest Welshman (twice), a successful Halloween, the visit of the Clan and some other future events...

Good morning friends of Northern,

Having been rendered completely incapable (not that we’ve ever been capable) by the Halloween Party yesterday (two day hangover, very much) we apologise for a slight delay in getting out all the bits and pieces that happened last week at the club.

It was another tough week on the field for the club, with two defeats. However, never one to let a defeat get them down, both teams, plus an assembled entourage of many friends and spouses enjoyed a fabulous evening of Halloween festivities in the Bunker afterwards.

Onwards and upwards this week, as we take on Trinity and Currie respectively in the weekend’s fixtures and look to get our separate league campaigns back on track.

On The Field
For the 1st XV, Saturday looked to be an opportunity to turn around last weekend’s unlucky result at Lismore. Sadly it wasn’t to be, as a diminutive but talented Hawick Linden side came to the Bunker on a four match winning streak.

Relegated from East 1 last season without a single win, the quality from that higher division was apparent as Northern themselves pinned down by an excellent kicking display. Two late unanswered tries saw that the visitor’s triumph 13-0 as Northern failed to register any points for the time this season, a disappointment given our form until two games of late.

For the 2nd XV, going away to Linlithgow was always going to be a tough ask. However having given the hosts a head start, Northern fought back with tries through Jason Thompson and Chris Jayne. With it tight at half-time, Northern started slowly once more and as the hosts reached an effectively unassailable lead, Northern turned the style on and scored once more through Chris Jayne.

Hard lines and better luck next week.

Training/Availabilities/This Weekend
Training takes place this week on Tuesday and Thursday as per. Things are getting tighter between both squads and getting yourself down both nights or at least once is the only way of guaranteeing a starting place in either squad!

Decent numbers last week helped with the team structure (even if the weather didn’t) and we’ve got the full lights at Accies till ours are fixed and/or/when they kick us off.*

Let’s make the most of it and train hard this week to get the most out of the weekend.

Off The Field
The Halloween party was a tremendous success. A great evenings worth of activities organised by Chris Jayne (see earlier, busy day from Stokes proudest Welshman), and a large crowd to fill the Bunker. Nice to see a lot of new faces down, plus the old ones and we look forward to seeing you all again (plus more) sometime soon!

The next fun event will be our Gents/2nd XV fixture against the Edinburgh Clan on the 19th of November at 12:30 p.m, Inverleith Park. The Edinburgh Clan are a mixed ability side, combining able-bodied and disabled players in the same inclusive rugby playing experience and the opportunity to take up their challenge if something we are delighted to embrace. If you’re free that day, please, please, please get along to watch/help out.

After that it’s somebodies birthday on the 26th (no-one in particular, PH) and then the Christmas Party in the first week of December.

Regardless, that was the week that was. See you down during the week or Saturday!

Yours in rugby,

ENRFC

*Thanks to Accies for letting us have the facilities - rugby family etc...
