Five tries in three National Conference League Premier Division outings has seen Nick Powley pick up the first-ever League Weekly Premier Division player of the month award.
The Hull Dockers back rower played a key role as they recorded two wins from three in March, their only defeat coming at the hands of arch-rivals West Hull on Saturday.
Powley occupies the loose forward position in the League Weekly Premier Division team of the month, which is dominated by Thatto Heath Crusaders players following their relatively impressive start to the season.
Keiron Maddocks has stood out as the champions’ star performer so far in 2012 but he failed to guide his team victory over Ince Rose Bridge on Saturday.
Ince have claimed the League Weekly club of the month prize after impressing during the first month of season.
Mick Worrall’s men were roundly written-off at the start of March, having being promoted into the top flight behind two far stronger sides, according to last season’s final standings.
However they are showing continual signs of improvement and few could now bet against them achieving or coming close to a play-off finish.
Interim season champions Hunslet Warriors are the League Weekly club of the month for March having made a near faultless start to the summer campaign.
Despite their superiority, Warriors are a newly-promoted second-tier club though they have eased to victory without performing at their best in all three games.
Such results have resulted in try-scoring machine Mark Cunningham earning his spot in the League Weekly Division One team of the month.
The flying centre is already averaging two tries per game and he is joined in the 13 by Hunslet’s consistent full back Gary McClelland, who on Saturday took his goals tally to an incredible 19.
Former Premier Division pair Bradford Dudley Hill and York Acorn have made equally notable starts.
Dudley Hill’s Nathan Kitson has been at the centre of everything at the Neil Hunt Memorial Ground and has therefore claimed the League Weekly Division One player of the month accolade for March.
League Weekly Division Two club of the month Waterhead are without doubt the third tier’s surprise package.
Saturday saw them demolish Heworth to make it four from four and all eyes will be on them as clash with the division’s best in April.
Meanwhile, Shaw Cross Sharks and former Dewsbury Ram Ryan Glynn has been named League Weekly Division Two player of the month.
The stand-off turned full back was prevented from scoring a point for the first time this season on Saturday, having previously bagged three man-of-the-match awards, eight tries and eight goals in five appearances.
He features in the League Weekly Division Two team of the month alongside fellow Shark Paul Adams, who has crossed the whitewash on five occasions in four matches.
Those two are joined by the fantastic Eastmoor Dragons captain Adrian Mulcahy, Waterhead’s impressive try-scoring forward Craig Highton and Dewsbury Celtic’s solid back-row forward Liam Walmsley.
East Leeds and Ovenden also boast at least two players each in what would be a solid starting 13.
