Tank Passes Away
Tank Stainton has passed on following a short but serious illness. All at Egremont RLFC pass on our condolences to Jen, Dylan, Warren and families.
Tank Stainton died recently following a short but serious illness. We are informed that the funeral is at St Mary's and St Michael's church at the bottom of Egremont and afterwards at the RL Club on Tuesday 7th September 2010, 1200hrs.
We owe a lot to Tank who almost single handedly coached the youth teams when he had finished his playing career. He followed on the good work set by Mike Docherty and went on to coach the likes of Lee Walker, Paul Cruden, Paul Henson, Paul Lancaster and many others.
He was proud to see Woz turn out at Wembley and Dylan represent his country at BARLA GB. Always a willing helper he was taxi to any relative that needed to be somewhere. Grand kids and nephews benfitted from lifts for training and match days.
Following his coaching stint he was also the PRO when Egremont had its most famous year in 1997/98, reporting the glorious victory over Town and writing up the record breaking 13 match winning spell to win the NCL premier division.
Off the field he enjoyed a beer or two and would be happy to share his political opinions.
I think he would like us to celebrate his life rather mourn for too long, so cheers Tank, thanks for help and all the memories.
