Elland Unable to Hold Onto 16 Point Lead
Elland blew a 16 point lead to lose in their 1st match of the War of the Roses Trophy against a York Acorn side who played most of the match with only 12 players. The 1st 2o mins was a tight affair with both sides tackling well and it took a neat break by Phil Taylor to put James Fairbank in for the opening try under the posts Taylor converting . Right on the stroke of half time and on the last tackle Taylor chipped over the defence regathered his own kick side stepped the fullback to score converting the try himself to give Elland a 12-0 halftime lead.
Elland attacked from the ko and a great one on one steal by Steve Brocklehurst in the Acorn 20 saw him score out wide. But from then on it was all Acorn as they scored 18 unanswered points to pinch the game with the final try being afull lengther by their fullback
