Bob Burrett, a member of both the Ellingham & Ringwood Rugby Club and Ellingham Cricket Club, sadly lost his two year battle with pancreatic cancer last week at the age of 60.

Bob was born in the Parish of Ellingham on the Somerley Estate and went to the Rockford Village School, which is now the Alice Lisle pub. He was a former first team player at the rugby club and he went on to become one of the founding members of the now thriving Mini & Junior Academy, which is one of the foundations of the club.

Peter Pearce, the Ellingham & Ringwood Chairman paid tribute to Bob saying, 'He was a good friend who will be greatly missed and our thoughts are with Jan and his family.' A minutes silence was held at the club at the weekend in memory of Bob.

Bob was also a member of Ellingham Cricket Club for over 40 years and was a former first team captain. He spent a lot of time watching the cricket club’s games over the last couple of years and was immensely proud when his sons Neil and Mark both scored half centuries on the same day.

Until his illness, Bob was the grounds man at Burgate School. He also spent a lot of time on his allotment and was well known for winning prizes for his produce at the Ellingham show.

Bob’s funeral will be held on Tuesday 10 April at 11am at the Parish Church in Ringwood. This will be followed by a private family burial and refreshments at the rugby club.
