A good start to the season

With no 1st XV fixture we took a strong 2nd XV to Dorchester for our Dorset Division 2 fixture. We took time to get going in the first half despite having a large percentage of the possession. Our fly half Archie Cockayne kicked a penalty following some sustained pressure to take a three point lead, but this motivated Dorchester and they scored a well worked try to make it 5-3. We then applied further pressure and lock forward Tim Linford (pictured) crashed over to give the visitors a 5-8 lead at the break.

After a stern talking to from coach Alan Steel, we came out strongly in the second half and Tim Linford soon went over for a second try that was converted by scrum half Aaron Barker. Barker kicked a second penalty to extend the lead, but Dorchester came back with a penalty of their own Towards the end of the game the our forwards started to dominate the game and number eight Stuart Pearce went over in the corner for a well worked try, which Barker converted. Wing three quarter Jonny Joiner went over in the corner for the last score of the game, but the player of the match was flank forward Andrew Lorton, who was magnificent at the breakdown and put in some tremendous tackles.
