Two tries a piece - but ill discipline at the contact area is costly

Our Hampshire Division 1 game against Farnborough at the Raymond Brown Memorial Ground finished with two tries a piece, but Farnborough were the comfortable winners as a result of our poor discipline around the contact area.

Farnborough opened the scoring after 20 minutes with a try after a period of sustained pressure. This was converted and the visitors added a penalty goal to open up a 10-0 lead. We came back strongly with tries from wing three quarters Ben Carey and Chris Frost (pictured). Full back Josh Butcher added a conversion to take a 12-10 lead, but we then conceded two penalty goals and were trailing 16-12 at the break.

We played some good rugby in the second half, but failed to finish off a number of try scoring opportunities. Farnborough then scored their second try, which they converted and added a further penalty goal to increase their lead to 26-12. We continued to chase the game, but Farnborough were “street wise” and able to contain us - and our only reward was a further penalty goal from Josh Butcher to make the final score 26-15.
