ERRFC U14s win Hampshire Vase Final 15:5 against Portsmouth with a power packed display.

ERRFC U14s scored three tries to their opponents one, in a performance packed full of power against Portsmouth to win the Hampshire Vase Trophy at Parsonage Barn Lane on Sunday morning.
From the start both teams tore into each other seeking the vital first score. The Ellingham forwards pack were in magnificent form playing direct driving Channel One rugby. Whilst the backs cut down their opponents at every opportunity and made fast accurate thrusts into Portsmouth's territory.
Ellingham made the first breakthrough 20 mins into the first half with a try scored by flanker Philpott breaking from the back of a maul after a period of sustained Ellingham pressure. Almost immediately Portsmouth equalised after an attempted Ellingham clearance kick was charged down, enabling the Portsmouth backs to move the ball down the line and score in the corner. So it was all square at 5 points each, as the referee blew for half time.
The second half started as the first half had finished with neither team giving quarter to the other. However as the second half continued it was the strong, powerful Ellingham forwards who began to gain ascendency against their tiring opponents and No 8 Kempson went over to score his second try following powerful rucking by the Ellingham forwards to put the home team 10:5 ahead. After the restart Ellingham again camped close to the Portsmouth try line and from another period of sustained driving rugby, flanker Philpott scored Elligham's third try leaving Ellingham worthy 15:5 winners at the final whistle.
