The u18 girls made a strong start to the RFU cup in the first 'round robin' stage of the competition at Basingstoke. Drawn in a pool with the home team and Oakmedians, the girls made a great start by defeating Basingstoke in a hotly contested match. Ellingham dominated the breakdown and played some lovely flowing rugby to run in four tries to one. With one conversion we won 22-7. This performance was even more impressive as the team lost their talismanic pack leader, Izzy Hall to injury in the first few minutes of the game.
A quick turnaround meant we had to play again after a short ten minute break. As a result the girls lost the next match to a strong, physical, Oakmedians team, who were fresh to the contest as they had not yet played a game. The final score was a 31-7 defeat.
The upshot of these two results was a creditable second place finish in the pool and a strong springboard to move on to the next stage of the competition.
