Last weekend Ellon Rugby Seniors didn’t have any fixtures, but the youth and Juniors made up for it!

After a full Saturday training session, Sunday delivered an action packed day! The U18 girls travelled south to take part in the National Girls U18 7s, where they came third after battling away in 5 games. Along with the tournament they got to watch Scotland Ladies V Ireland in the Womens 6 Nations, in which ex Ellon player Emma Wassell was playing. At the same time in Huntly was Ellon S2 playing Huntly and Moray in a three way event which Ellon won both games. Meanwhile at the meadows 500 children attended the Ellon Tournament. The club put on a P2/3 tag event on the astroturf and P4, P5, P6 and P7 a full contact round robin tournament on all the spare grass the Meadows had! All competing for their age band winning trophy, with Ellon, Aberdeen Grammar, Garioch, Aberdeen Wanderers, Mackie and Deeside attending. This year Mackie were the winners at every age band! With Aberdeen Wanderers winning the Fair Play award! Ellon P6 won the highest placed Ellon team for the second year running, so congratulations to Neil Fraser for his team’s second place! Also the club would like to thank the ball sponsors GSE Rentals, Richard Porteous, Jacob Vavangas, Jan and Dylan Yeats and Murifield Recruitment.
Due to a full Meadows the U15 had to play their “home” cup match against Mackie up at Catto Park in Peterhead. They came up against a very strong Mackie team, whilst under strength themselves after a number of injuries last week. Final score was 10 – 27 to Mackie but Ellon still progress, but in a lower cup.
In the past week, Ellon Rugby Development have been running Rugby Festivals for primary schools. They have been working all year in the community from Balmeadie, Bridge of Don, Old Meldrum, Mintlaw, Peterhead, Fraserbrugh and Ellon. They have run festivals this week in Mintlaw and Peterhead and then next week it will be in Ellon. This work involves working with the primary school pupils and the secondary school pupils, teaching rugby and life skills. Ellon rugby employs a Development Officer and a Modern Apprentice to help with this work, supplementing the volunteers. Gareth Kemp, who manages the Development team said “at the moment we have a sponsorship opportunity for the “Development Team” to sponsor the clothing, pitchside board and web article/advert”. “The work in the community and club development costs Ellon Rugby about £12,000 a year and we would very much like someone to assist in this”. Please contact Gareth Kemp at garethkemp@ellonrfc.co.uk to discuss.
