No game for firsts but S1/2 play a great game.

Ellon first team didn’t play their final game of the season against Caithness, due to unavailability of players. After discussions with the Caledonia league, it was decided that they wouldn’t complete the fixture and as such are automatically relegated. This was deemed acceptable as Ellon had already been relegated and couldn’t complete the fixture. What it does mean is that all the fixtures Ellon have played will be removed from the league, points included. It doesn’t affect the league for the other clubs. As sad as that is, it means Ellon can move to Caledonia League Two and rebuild. They have a very young team now and hopefully that youth and enthusiasm will come through.
Meanwhile the S1 and S2 came together to face a strong Highland team. With the Inverness based club dominating club rugby at the moment it was great to see Ellon stand up and dominate this fixture. Earlier in the season Highland dominated the S1 and S2 games, but this shows how the teams have developed. From training to matches, the S1 and S2 teams have developed a lot and with lower numbers this weekend due to the Easter holidays, they came together for a joint game. The team worked exceptionally well together and had more skill, pace and aggression to take this game with a well-deserved 40 – 11 win!
This Sunday is the Caledonia Cup Finals weekend, being held at Madras rugby Club in St Andrews. Ellon have two teams attending. Both the U18 and U16 teams are playing in the Bowl final, U18 against Highland, and U16 against Glenrothas. Ellon are taking a bus down with supporters, and here is hoping the boys continue their development this season with great performances.
