Ellon Rugby responded to last week’s cup defeat in style with a resounding 62-5 win over Hillfoots RFC at The Meadows on Saturday, March 2. The win sees the home side gain vital points in Caledonia 1, where they are still in relegation zone.

Broken play and scrappy Hillfoots defence allowed Ellon over for 10 tries with three more held up over the line. But, despite dominance in the set-piece and with ball in hand, the Meadows side let their composure slip enough for their opponents to go over for a late unconverted try.

Ellon coach, Mike Cox, said: “Fair play to Hillfoots, they kept going until the last minute. They were clearly not the same side we played down there when they beat us 31-5.

“I am happy with the boys, this was a good result, but we are still not playing as well as we could be.”

Ellon will now focus on next Saturday’s game against St. Andrews University. With the bottom six teams in Caley 1 within reaching distance of each other in points, both sides will be looking for a crucial win to get themselves out of dangerous territory.

The match kicks-off at 12:30pm at The Meadows, follow @EllonRugby for live updates.
