Cup Match vs Normandy, Friday 11th May
A raft of ducks on a soggy wicket!
Elstead won the toss and decided to bat on a sunny evening following weeks of constant rain on a damp wicket. The Normandy strike bowlers pegged openers Jesse and Thomas back, them finding it hard to score runs, with Jesse falling on the 3rd over with the score just on 6. Franky joined Thomas, and after 6 overs the pair had crept the total to 22 when Thomas was clean bowled by Lyth. Two balls later Lyth struck again, clean bowling Joseph without adding to the score. This double wicket maiden over, followed by taking the wicket of Thomas and Jesse concluded a 4 wicket haul at a cost of just 19 runs from his 4 overs. This spell was to mark the beginning of a mid-order collapse, with 4 consecutive wickets all falling for a duck. A minor stand of sorts ensued later as Joss and Chad arrived at the wicket, with the pair scoring 7 and 8 respectively. The Elstead inning eventually ground to a halt with the score on 53, the final wicket falling in the 15th over.
Normandy came out to bat, with a false dawn for Elstead appearing as Gareth clean bowled the opener Hough for 2 in the second over with the score just on 9. Jerome then bowled Hough’s replacement Toteham with the score on 16, but that was as good as it got for Elstead, as Jones and Phillipson dug in and grafted 19 and 22 runs respectively to take then to the brink of the finish line. Phillipson was stumped 1 run short of victory but Normandy romped over the line with just 8.5 overs down.
Elstead 53 all out off 14.5 overs
Normandy 56 for 3 off 8.3 overs
