Cup Match vs Normandy Tuesday 8th May 2012
Under 13's Stumble at the first hurdle in the cup!
Elstead won the toss and elected to put Normandy into bat on a sunny evening following weeks of constant rain. Normandy made steady progress managing to put 24 runs on the board when in the 4th over West was run out by Harry. Five runs later Alex took the wicket of Welfare via a catch taken by Lewis with his first ball. 10 runs later Alex struck again with Smith caught off his bowling by Max . The partnership of Grimshaw and Jones added 49 runs to Normandy’s total. Max took his second catch of the match, dismissing Grimshaw off David bowling for 24 runs, with Jones eventually retiring on a beautifully crafted 25. The Normandy tail didn’t add much more in the way of runs with Charlie O and Alex both getting in the wickets. Normandy took their score to 103 runs for 6 wickets off 23 overs. Alex was the star of the Elstead bowling with figures of 3 wickets for 18 runs off 3 overs which included a wicket maiden. David finished with 2 wickets for 22 runs from 4 overs which also included a wicket maiden.
Elstead’s reply reflected the gloom of the fading light and gathering clouds, with the first 6 wickets falling for just 10 runs in 6 overs, the main damage carried out by Normandy’s pacey and deadly accurate Grimshaw. Sam H showed some stern resistance, scoring 10 off the bat and putting 27 on the board in a spell lasting 27 balls. In an uplifting partnership with David, who scored 14, they grafted the Elstead total to 54, Elstead running out of wickets and steam in the 14th over.
Normandy 103 for 6 off 20 overs
