Match Report:Gorleston 5 Ely City 0
Depleted Robins finish with heaviest defeat of the season
An away game to Gorleston is always a difficult place to go to, but when the side were missing six players from the Cambs Invitation squad and with no recoginised subs apart from the management team you knew it was going to be a difficult afternoon.
Brady Stone gave a debut to defender Carson Silvain, and while some of the starting eleven were carrying knocks or were ill the Robins started the game fairly brightly.
Daniel Jeffrey playing at left back went on a good run and shot before the keeper made a save .The home side always looked dangerous and went ahead in the 14th minute all be it in the most fortunate of circumstances . Arguably one of our most consistent players all season keeper Harry Reynolds seemed to have a shot by Jacob Short directed straight at him covered ,but for a split second took his eye off of the ball and it squirmed past his hands into the back of the net. Gorleston did take control of the game and although the away side were working hard they went two behind in the 37th minute when shot from the edge of the box by Kyle Ingram beat Reynolds who had no chance.
Luke Mansfield had a chance to get his side a goal back but his quick fire shot easily missed the target from long range. Kelvin Enaro as always was causing problems, but picked up a knock after some heavy challenges. Alex Theobald also had some half chances but could not convert
While going in two down at the break they was still room for optimism and again started the second half fairly well. The home side finished the game off when the robins defence failed to deal with a cross and although Daniel Jeffrey seemed to deal with the problem his clearance fell straight to a Joel Watts who tucked it away.
The Robins were given a lifeline when Jack Garrod was sent off for grabbing Matty Simpson around the throat in front of the referee and straight after the away side should have been awarded a penalty when Alex Theobald poked the ball past the keeper only then to be uphended by the same player. This summed up our afternoon when the referee awarded a goal kick
Ten minutes from time the ten men of Gorleston made it 4-0 when Yusuff attacked down the left and crossed the ball in. Watts reacted first and got to the near post to stoop low and head the ball down into the goal.
Both Brady Stone and Martin Grey came on for the injured Kelvin Enaro and Alex Theobald and in the last minute the day got worst when a Harry Reynolds clearance form the edge of his box did not get any distance and found Gorleston's Luke Goreham just inside the Ely half and he duly beat Reynolds to make it 5-0
An disappointing result to end the season, but with so many positives gained we take this result on the chin and I know planning for next season has already started
