20 man first team squad named

The start of the season is nearly here so we would like to give our supporters and those interested in the Football Club an update of where we are at before the big kick off.

We concluded our pre season friendlies with a 5-3 win away at Thetford last night with five different players on the score sheet what was pleasing to see. We conceded a couple of sloppy goals what is a habit we need to eradicate quickly this season. We have been pleased with how pre-season has gone with four wins and two defeats and we need to carry this into the start of the season.

With regards to the first team squad we are very happy to have kept all of the players that finished the season with us and we have added 5 new players to the squad. Goalkeeper Will Beech as moved to the area from Manchester and has fitted into the squad well. Spencer Saberton is an 18 year old defender who we have signed from Histon’s academy. Paul Summerskill has signed from Cottenham and can play either full back. Craig Neal is a versatile left sided player signed from Soham United and Jack Saunders is an attacking winger signed from Wisbech St Marys. Craig and Jack have given us some width that was needed. Alex Theobald is an 18 year old striker signed from Fordham having scored lots of goals for them last season. David Wilson (Smudge) will also be back in the first team squad this season after recovering from a serious knee injury. Our 20 man squad for the start of the season is:

Goalkeepers
Craig Galbraith
Will Beech

Defenders
Josh Sewell
James Seymour
Spencer Saberton
Nathan Littlefair
Daniel Jeffrey
Ed Richardson
Paul Summerskill
Martin Grey

Midfielders
Ash Walter
Liam Griffen
Sam Goodge
Lewis Hook
Craig Neal
David Wilson

Attackers
Richard Gammon
Alex Knowles
Jack Saunders
Alex Theobald

In addition to this we have a number of players in our Reserve team squad that will be hoping to push for a place in the First team with quite a few players proving they are capable at the end of last season. Unfortunately Reserve team manager Paul Neary had to step down during pre-season due to other work commitments but assistant manager Ray Harrison has taken charge keeping most of the players from last season and adding a few additions aswell as being tasked with getting a number of the Under 18s involved.

It is an exciting time for the club with the setup of our new Under 18s team. Having watched the squad during pre-season in training and friendlies it is evident that there is a lot of talent and quality within. Therefore we are looking for a number of players to start being involved in mens football within the reserve team and push for the first team. Lewis Hook is already in the first team squad at 16 and a number of other players have had a taste of first team or reserve team football during pre-season including Joe Branham, Luke Mansfield, Jacob Walters, Rhys Mazey and Ben Shepherd.

Let’s hope for a successful season on and off the pitch for the club. Thank you for your support and to our sponsors for the upcoming season.
