Match Reports - 18th November 2017

Having drawn their game last week, Ely City Ladies 1s fought back this weekend winning 6-0 against Bury St Edmunds 3s. Jo Rayner scored 4 of the goals and Pam Clarke and Hannah Brown the other two.

Ely City Mens 1s however weren’t as successful losing 1-3 at home against Bourne Deeping. Ely City were expecting a tightly contested game but with a number of the squad unable to play, a few changes to positions needed to be made. The teams were closely matched for the first fifteen minutes but Bourne Deeping broke through and scored. After a few positional changes at half time, and a series of quick passes between Matt Samouel and Marc Hunt, Marc Hunt equalised for Ely within the five minutes. Bourne Deeping weren’t to be beaten though and scored a further two goals. A late rally from Ely, saw an appeal for a flick turned down and despite several short corners, they were unable to pull the scoreline back, thus bringing to an end, a run of 6 consecutive wins.

The Mens 2s faired much better with a 1-1 draw against unbeaten top of the league Cambridge South 4s! Captain Julien Porre said ‘Everybody really stepped up and played together to bring in this great result. I am really proud of the team!’

Ely City Ladies 2s weren’t as fortunate in their scoreline losing 0-2 to Cambridge City 5s. Despite some excellent teamwork by Ely and several attempts on goal they were unable to score. They fought to the end though and the couple of goals scored by the young Cambridge City team didn’t really reflect the game.

The Mens 3s were also unlucky with a 0-3 loss to St Neots 5s.
