Coaching Standards

Coaching Standards

Ely Rugby Club has prided itself on the standard of coaching over the years and we have had a series of RFU coaches including 2 RFU Senior Level III coaches, one at present, and several RFU Level II and I coaches for the senior/junior sides. We number Tony Russ, who went on to coach Saracens and Leicester amongst others, in this list and we still offer training to actual or potential coaches.

The Youth- and Mini-sections likewise have considered RFU qualifications very important and in the summer of 2006 lots of the youth and mini coaches or administrators will be or have been attending courses as diverse as Child Protection, Sports Equity, Girlsport, First Aid, A Club for All and RFU coaching courses.

The club organises guest coaches to help train youth/mini coaches as well as give their 'charges' a change of view! This summer we hosted an RFU Speed, Agility, Quickness coaching course.

At present we run a coaching group mainly for senior/youth coaches both to help and advise our coaches and from which the session coaches are often used. We encourage all those interested in coaching now or in the future to join us as we arrange internal meetings and practice assessments without compromising the fitness of those still seriously playing.

Within all this we are building a powerful Child Protection and Equity policy which we intend to build bridges of trust rather than be a chore which puts people off helping.
