Ely Tigers u12's put on a show to ensure last week is well and truly forgotten....

Match Report Ely Tigers U12 Sunday 25th March Year 2012

“Turnaround Sunday”

We travelled to far away Haverhill in another county, for some with sat navs it took them somewhere know where!!! and others even longer to arrive, to hopefully turn around last Sundays defeat.

First game

Haverhill 5 Ely 14

Kian Jackie B

Cameron

Both converted by Jackie B

Haverhill needed some extra players to make up numbers, so Robbie, Harvey and a new look winger Jack E pulled on the Haverhill shirt.

Haverhill started well and took first points. Pressure from each side kept the score to 5 nil at half time.

One noticeable point from this half was that Reece while standing or jogging on his own managed to fall over a blade of grass as Ely progressed up the pitch, much to the delight of the nearby parents.

Ely tackled well halting Haverhill with Robbie, Harvey and Jonah Lomu on the wing, always a threat to Ely.

Ely got the points with a try from Jackie B, who then converted and Cameron as ever always a threat scored. Jackie B again converted.

Haverhill always applied pressure, but Ely held their own with all team members putting in enough effort to hold on to a win.

Ryan had to retire with an injury, so hopefully he will be fit soon and Steven came to support as he also carried a injury.

Second game

Haverhill 0 Ely 73

Tries- Shaun 2, Harvey 3, Robbie 2, Jacob 1, John 3, = 11 tries

Conversions 9, all Harvey

Again Haverhill borrowed three players, Megan, William and Adam, well done to them. Ely were dominant from the start. Harvey, Robbie and Jackie supported each other for Shaun to score. The sun then came out and from the Haverhill kick off Jackie collected, supported by Oscar got to the Haverhill line where Jack E took the ball, released it to Harvey who then scuttled over to score.

Haverhill again kicked to Jackie who ran and dodged to the halfway, released to Robbie who was not going to be stopped. Again Jackie collected a Haverhill kick and came two meters short of the Haverhill line, so close, and ran so far, what a run, well done Haverhill tacklers. A scrum followed, Ely won and Jacob powered over to score.

Robbie decided that he would catch the next Haverhill kick and ran the whole field to get his second try, well done.

Haverhill applied some pressure, Ely held their own and John broke free to score.

Robbie again collected the Haverhill kick and only was stopped by a Haverhill tackle into touch, from the line out John scored this second try

0 - 45 half time

Haverhill had halftime oranges.

The second half saw Haverhill apply pressure to Ely and they scrummaged, handled and tackled well. At the base of another Scrum Harvey picked and ran...to offload to Robbie out of Megan's tackle..to then receive a return pass from Robbie to score his second try....(run him over next time Megan). Shaun then scored his second with a individual darting run from the Haverhill kick off. Shaun also put in some crunching tackles.

Same again at kick off (hope you are still reading this) John as ever wants the action and tore a hole in the Haverhill defense to get this third try.

Well now, this ready did happen, Jack E collected from the Haverhill kick off, passed to Oscar and we shouted “Run Oscar run” and he did, …… over the touch line and beyond the dead ball line!!!!!!!!!!!, but he forgot to touch down as he was travelling so fast, ah well, we have a scrum back for Ely to win and Harvey to finish with this third try.

Well done to Haverhill who put up a really spirited effort despite the score, and well done to all the Ely team not mentioned who after last week returned to form and showed determination in all areas of play

Yours truly,
