Ely Development versus Biggleswade 3

A comfortable home win for the young Tigers.

Ely were the first to settle and were awarded an early penalty which Peter Forteath converted. The visitors then found their form and after a fine rolling maul went over to score. The Tigers came out fighting and after constant pressure released Dave Kempers to score, Pete Forteath converted.
Ely then took control of the match and the visitors found themselves pinned back so kicked long. Full back Paul Dewey caught the clearance and a mazey run took him back into the 22 where he offloaded to Jon Hunt who scored under the posts. Pete Forteath converted. Fine forward play allowed the backs to spring the break for captain Nev MacNish to score, Forteath converted again. Half time score Ely 24 Biggleswade 5.
The second half continued in a similar vein with the visitors forced to defend until Jon Hunt performed an outstanding sidestep to score his second try. Once again converted by Forteath. Sam Smith then encroached on a visitors penalty and was sin binned. This gave the visitors more incentive and they worked the ball up to Ely,s 22 only for fly half Pete Forteath to intercept and release seventeen year old Harry Rogerson and Sean Fleming to chase. Fleming won and scored his first senior try on his debut. Forteath converted. Ely were now in control but concentration lapses by the forwards allowed the visitors three penalties in quick succession which ended up in a try. Ely were now back to full strength and another Forteath kick through was chased down and he touched down himself. Final score Ely 48 Biggleswade 10. Man of the Match was Harry Rogerson who at just 17 chased every ball and managed to take out the opposition number 8 and referee with one tackle.
