The Enfield Ignatians U16s gained a much needed confidence boosting 12-7 win over Bedford B in Division 3 of the Herts-Middlesex League.

Bedford B, sitting second in the table at the start of the play, were the more incisive of the two sides in the first-half when the elements were in their favour.

There was a certain inevitability about Bedford's first score, when the prop forced his way over , which allied to a sublime conversion, gave the visitors a 7-0 lead.

However, the cohesion gained on the tour to West Sussex, paid dividends and Ignatians certainly grasped the nettle by using the power of the boot to pin Bedford in their own half after the break in the windy conditions.

After establishing some good field positions, Ignatians then unleashed their big forwards, and a tap penalty move saw number eight, Adrian Arthur, breach the defence to make it 7-5.

The blue and golds continued to stick to the script, and although a couple of opportunities went begging, Kevin Coke's irrepressible momentum carried him over for the all important second try.

Jamie Forrester added the conversion, as Ignatians bounced back from a 24-12 defeat at Barnet the previous week.

It was performance underpinned by a confident display from hooker William Bruce. Not only did he strike the ball cleanly in the scrum, but he also sent Adrian Arthur on his way for the first try.

It was a result that delighted coaches Jim Marshall and Chris Stockman. The former said: "It was great to see the boys put a lot of thought into their game, and our tackling was excellent."
