The lure of appearing live on The Rugby Tonight Show (Friday April 24th) screened by BT Sport proved an irresistible one for Enfield Ignatians RFC, and they grasped the nettle with both hands after 15 members of the senior and junior sections were used as one of the demo teams.

Paired with Eastbourne RFC, the blue and golds were deployed as the ball handlers and were put through their paces by former England internationals Ben Kay and Ian Balshaw as regards re-enacting one of the Bath tries scored against the Newcastle Falcons at Kingston Park.

Vice-captain Keir Bonnar said: "It was a good experience. The presenters and staff at Rugby Tonight made you feel welcome and made the night enjoyable. Before the show we were a little apprehensive as it was a new format and we weren't sure what we were going to demonstrate.

"We didn't have much time to rehearse and the studio is full of cameras so you do feel a little pressure as the show is filmed live, but the presenters were reassuring and the whole evening was quite relaxed.

"They {presenters} made the effort to speak to the players and audience, and also tried to get everyone as much air time as possible. The other demo teams, Eastbourne and Abingdon School, were also in good form and there was a bit of banter between us. It was a good experience and, if anyone gets the opportunity to do this, they should definitely do it!"

Ignatians also supplied a dozen audience members for the show and, in true rugby fashion, the banter between other members of the rugby fraternity, and the presenting team of Kay, Laurence Dallaglio, Martin Bayfield and Craig Doyle, was never less than lively.

The Rugby Tonight Show, in new format, was a three part-affair with pre-match analysis leading up to the live Bath versus London Irish game (the demo team were also required at half-time), before the show signed off with a final part revolving around post-match analysis and interviews.

Ignatians' club president Martin Baker: "It was proved an enjoyable occasion for our demo team and audience members and it was great exposure for the club."
