IGNATIANS EXPERIENCE STEEP LEARNING CURVE

ENFIELD IGNATIANS U14S 10 HACKNEY U14S 60

The U14s were clearly a little ring rusty and, a side still coming to terms with the basics of the game, were forced to play second-fiddle to visiting Hackney despite showing glimpses of potential.

In a game which pitted 13 versus 13, Ignatians made the worst possible start following a score very early doors from Hackney.

However, they regrouped and were rewarded via a first-half try from the industrious Rhys Williams.

However, Hackney had a couple of strike runners which Ignatians failed to cope with and they ultimately made a big difference.

Still, Ignatians ploughed-on. A mile behind on the scoreboard, they didn’t allow their ends to drop and also found it within themselves to fashion a second-half try signed off by Tyreid Savage.

Gareth Williams said: “We played well in parts but Hackney were simply too strong and we were torn apart by a couple of speedsters. However, the Tyreid Savage score showed what we are capable of it as it came off a scissors’ move.”

Clearly, this is a side that is crying out for more game time and, any progress, however, small, is to be lauded at this stage.
