Following an extremely eventful friendly on Tuesday against Lingfield, it was interesting to find out what our players response would be.
The result was a hard working win, achieved with minimum fuss or alarms, and once we had taken the lead just three minutes into the game there only looked to be one winner.
And it was a nice goal too. Billy Ramsey made space on the left and his deep cross picked out Dale Marvell at the far post. His header found Kyle Hough who took a touch before drilling the ball low into the corner.
Large periods of this game were played in the middle of the park and I noted very little up to the point that we scored our second goal in the 24th minute, this time it was Hough who was the provider, and his low right wing cross was met by a run that was timed to perfection by Ben Hayward who gave the keeper no chance.
Marvell had another shot blocked soon after while the visitors put a header over our bar but two-nil it was at the half.
Frimley nearly got back into the game within four minutes of the restart. New boy Richard Bates had his pass across field intercepted and in truth the visiting player really should have done better than he did, not even forcing Aaron France into a save. A few minutes later he was forced into a save and a good one it was too, tipping the a long shot wide.
Unfortunately he had no chance with Frimley's goal after 75 minutes, which was a powerful cross that was met with a bullet header. Whilst the header was excellent, you had to wonder whether the original cross was in fact a shot, as it came across the park at a rate of knots!
The goal had no real bearing on the outcome as it turned out, and we restored our two goal lead towards the end. Bates set up Hough with a clever backheel and from the left wing, his teasing cross was volleyed in by Colin Folkes.
