Epsom hand Banstead a win in low scoring match
Stanger 3-24 Somerford 3-29 Abeywickrama 44
Epsom bowled well and really restricted Banstead getting some key wickets early and then maintaining momentum with both opening bowlers Anandpara and Stanger bowling with good control. Stanger picking up 3 wickets for 24 of 10, with a ball that was moving back in nicely. Somerford followed up with another miserly spell of 3 -29 of 10 and Epsom were in control with Banstead 75 -7. After a small partnership for the 8th wicket Epsom then had Banstead for 115-9 but then let 10 and 11 put on 43 before bowling them out for 157.
At 3 an over this should have been a canter. Epsom lost an early wicket but Nickels was looking good and Berry was watchful early on. on 18 Nickels then got drawn into a good ball edging to keeper. Abeywickrama then came to the crease and immediately started to dominate, but after a commanding partnership of 37 Berry edged to the keeper trying to run a wide ball down to 3rd man. Stanger now came to the crease and played patiently with Abeywickrama, who consistently latched on to the loose ball putting it away. At 100-4 after a partnership of 43, Epsom looked good for the win but Abeywickrama then late cut a ball to gully who took a very good sharp catch. This brought Lowe to the crease and these 2 put on another 24 playing sensibly before Stanger got caught LBW on the crease. Lowe then went 7 runs later and the long tail only mustered a further 10 runs to be bowled out for 141, handing Banstead the Win.
Epsom now only have slim hopes of avoiding relegation and need to win all 3 games to have any chance.
