Essex enjoyed victory in 5 of their 7 games at Redbridge Sports Centre today.

Essex Open A 57 Essex Open B 43
In an excellent game of netball Essex Open A emerged as victors over Essex Open B to claim the points in this Essex Met League encounter. The early stages of the game saw both sides competing in the centre court to gain control but with neither able to claim a clear advantage. For the A team Rebecca Wilks, Sarah Biss and Sam Lawrence worked hard but were well matched by Nicky Wilks, Nicola Alves and Rebecca Mead. Such was the competitive nature of the game that midway through the first quarter the scores stood level at 5-5. For the rest of the quarter Essex A gained a slight initiative with Leah Hayzelden and Rochelle Reynolds-Blanche taking advantage of the opportunities afforded to them to take a 14-12 lead into the end of the first session.
In the second quarter Essex Open A started well and quickly established a 5 goal advantage. However the B team were in no mood to give up and fought back strongly with Louise Acons and Sofia Sefton performing well in the shooting circle. At half time Essex Open A had extended their lead to 8 as they led 30-22.
The third quarter was the most tightly contested of the game. Kyra Boyce came on in defence for the B team and this led to a reorganisation of the team. Both sides found goals harder to come by in this quarter with the defences holding firm. However with a quarter to play Essex Open A held a 10 goal advantage and had effectively sealed the match.
Some good shooting in the last quarter ensured that there was no way back for the B team. At the end of the game Essex Open A had sealed a victory with the scoreline not doing justice to an excellent performance from Essex Open B

Essex Open C 31 Chigwell Ladies 26
In a hard fought game Essex Open C eventually emerged as victors in very difficult conditions . With a very strong wind prevalent both sides found It very difficult to settle. Indeed with over 5 minutes played Essex were 3-0 down and had missed numerous opportunities to score. Essex were getting a good share of possession with Jess Fray, Kate Wilks and Monet Jervier taking the initiative in the centre court. Goals were difficult to come by for both sides and at the end of the first quarter Essex trailed 6-4.
Essex started the second quarter well with Bethany Lamb and Jaida Simpson scoring three quick goals to put Essex in front. However they could not hold on to the lead and allowed Chigwell to come back into the game. Chigwell defended well and took advantage of the opportunities afforded to them to hold on to a narrow lead at half time 14-13.
Essex made a change at half time with Josie Gibbons coming into the centre court. She made an immediate impact making some crucial interceptions. Once again Essex opened the quarter with 3 goals in quick succession. It was all to play for but but in this quarter Essex had a little too much for Chigwell and with Simpson scoring regularly Essex had built a healthy six goal lead by the end of the session. Chigwell would not take this lying down and once again fought back hard. With the score at 26-24 to Essex the game hung in the balance. Fortunately Essex had taken control of the centre court and had too much possession for Chigwell. In the last few minutes Essex accelerated away and at the end of the game led by 7 goals, the largest margin they had throughout the entire game.
