Stansted took all three points in this lively encounter against mid-table Newham FC. The game began at a very lively pace with the home team dictating the play for the first ten minutes, but it was the visitors who had the first real effort on target which home keeper Reece Paine comfortably tipped over the bar.

No real clear cut chances came to either side until the 36th minute when a delightful back heal from striker Callum Turner set up Dave Ratcliffe who coolly slotted it past the visitors keeper. Four minutes later Callum Turner was put through and he lobbed the outrushing keeper with ease to increase the home sides lead.

Stansted took to the pitch for the second period and from the off they were really forcing the play with both central midfielders Tom Le Masurier and Billy Turner in inspirational form helping create numerous chances. Firstly Chris Gibbs on 46 minutes had a strike just over the bar, then Jack Isherwood was only inches away with his headed effort and Billy Turner’s rasping volley bought out a terrific save from the Newham keeper. But it was the visitors who on 60 minutes scored the next goal after a goalmouth scramble seeing their striker force the ball over the line.

The home side reacted well and in the 65th minute Chris Gibbs was bought down in the area and Ratcliffe slotted in the resulting penalty kick to restore their two goal advantage.

Ratcliffe completed his hat trick after 90 minutes with another well taken penalty kick after Callum Turner was tripped from behind in the box.

Newham then grabbed a consolation goal with the last kick of the game.

Stansted Manager Paul Attfield applauded the way his whole team had played and was already planning for their next game at home to London Bari this Saturday.
