SAWBRIDGEWORTH Town returned to form with a 5-1 victory at Ilford on Wednesday night in the Essex Senior League.

Jason Hardy took over between the sticks for Sawbridgeworth on Wednesday evening after the Robins lost two goalkeepers to injury in the previous week

After failing to score on Saturday. Sawbridgeworth made up for it by scoring five.

The first goal came in the fourth minute. Gavin Cockman's 30-yard free kick screamed into the top right corner of Ilford’s goal giving ‘keeper Michael Green no chance at all.

lford buzzed around just outside the visitors' goal area but without getting a decent shot on goal.

They forced seven corners to one in the first half but fell further behind when Jason Todd scored in the 18th minute after a free-kick was not properly cleared.

The home side conceded again on 27 minutes after Mark Robinson’s free-kick was deflected high in the air. When the ball came down among a group of players Peter Flack forced it into the net.

Ilford pulled one back five minutes after the restart when Eden Nelson scored following a corner.

Sawbridgeworth restored their three goal advantage ten minutes later when George Wappett’s aerial pass found Cockman who shot home from six yards despite a challenge from two defenders.

Sawbridgeworth’ fifth was scored by Harold Craston in the 75th minute following a long clearance.
