Fairford head out of the GFA Trophy at Quarter-Final stage

FAIRFORD Town crashed out of the GFA Trophy at the Quarter-Final stage at Cadbury Heath on Tuesday evening.

Manager Paul Braithwaite made changes to the line-up with Charlie Grabe restored to a five-man midfield with Richard Knox missing the game.

Fairford made a bright enough start to the game with plenty of possesion down the right hand channel which ultimately saw the first real chance, which Gambling headed wide.

The home side, who won 7-1 on Saturday, opened the scoring on Matt Huxley firing into the net after seeing an initial shot cannon off the crossbar.

The impressive Jason Base saw his run beat two defenders before firing a low drive past Adam Clatworthy for the second on 35 minutes. Huxley struck a third, his second of the night, with a neat-free kick just before the break.

It was a poor start to the second period for Fairford, who conceded a fourth with Dwaine James heading home after good work on the right.

Braithwaite then made changes with Lee Simpson and Ryan Merchant introduced in place of Ashley Taylor and Gambling, with Jack Williams dropping into the backline.

Fairford then took control for a period of the game with the industrious work of Grabe almost paying off on more than one occasion. Dave Probets then came on for right-back Ben Hillerby with 66 on the clock.

A fifth goal arrived on 73 minutes with Mark Reynolds tapping home the loose ball following what had been a good stop from Clatworthy from close range.

Joe Chandler rose highest to head in number six before the match referee called time on a difficult 90 minutes against more physical opposition, who are gunning for promotion this term.

Fairford now return to league action this weekend with a home clash with Flackwell Heath at the Lane.

Fairford Town: Clatworthy; Hillerby(Probets '66), Taylor(Simpson '54), English, Hall; Dorey, Williams, Trass, Bailey (capt), Grabe; Gambling(Merchant '57)
