Shrivenham come out on top in reserve team derby
SHRIVENHAM ran out 1-0 winners in a closely fought reserve team derby encounter on Tuesday night.
The only goal of the game arrived with 39 minutes on the clock with Christian Wills on hand to find the target from close range.
Fairford created plenty of chances to win the game themselves, especially in the first period. Lee Smith’s centre on the half-hour mark found Ryan Hammersley but he headed narrowly wide when well placed. The lively Hammersley then went close again as the Reds – playing up the Barrington Park slope - continued to press the hosts.
Grant Davies, back in the side ‘for one night only’ after retirement, made a superb double save just before the hour to keep the visitors in the game.
Fairford, backed by the majority of first team players and management watching on from the sidelines, enjoyed plenty of possession in the second period but were unable to really work James Domm in the home goal.
The full-time whistle then blew to signal a first three points of the season for Shrivenham’s second string, whilst Fairford head to Highworth in Division Two West this Saturday.
