The boys made the trip to Gwernyfed with the hopes of making a great start the to new year with a win.

The game begins and with Fairwaters back line hit with injuries there was a hard start to a big the game. From the off the forwards were pressing hard and saw the some good time with ball and pressing the line they gave the ball back to Gwernyfed whos back line full of running and had some serious pace. They kicked down field and pressed hard gained a penaltiy. We took the game back down into the Gwernyfed half and a missed placed box kick saw it fall to the blind side winger who ran the ball straight the back, with hands though line to see Gwernyfed go almost 80 meters for a try.

We worked hard to gain field position and had a penalty for reward. With the forwards working down the pitch a break was made by Liam Brito and the good kick into the corner and with the pressure on the Gwernyfed line Tom Foley was cut down inches short also rumbles from Mikey Andrews saw the ball spilt and a scrum awarded and we conceded a penalty from it. With Gwernyfed using a superb driving line out they worked up the field and with the ruck a bit of a mess Captain Jack Leigh contesting the ruck was showed a yellow card on the first penalty inside the Fairwater half seemed a bit harsh. Gwernyfed kicked to the corner and that great driving line out saw them take a 15-3 lead.

We again worked up the pitch then working up the blindside and from 2-3 meters saw 5ft 1 Vivian Rees burrow over to bring the scores to 15-11 at the half. The second saw the return of Jack Leigh. Working down the field taking a more direct root and Patrick Ellis seeming to be able to control the line out well Jack Leigh made a bust and from the next few phases gave Tom Foley the chance to hit the line to gain a try 15-16. We worked hard and from the following kick off Richie Eillot made a high tackle to takes the score to 18-16 Gwernyfed. With the Game going Back and Forth and Gwernyfed Pushing hard at the Fairwater 22 we finally kicked away from the back three and stared to press up the field and Gwernyfed to their credit deffened amazingly well. They turned the ball over inside 1 meter of their own line but with less than one min to play the kick fell to Full Back Tom Cotter who returned it and found space, the was moved though the hands from Cotter to Rees, Rees to Brito, Brito to Philips who scored in the corner with no time left to play. Final score 18-23
