The club, whose 1st XV gained promotion from a competitive BT National League Division 2, have been recognised for maintaining high performance standards and for the continued development of a strong mini and youth section.

Falkirk’s 2nd XV narrowly missed out on promotion this season after a series of impressive performances, with Crieff and Strathearn topping the BT Caledonia League Division 3 Midlands by a single point.

The club also formed a 3rd XV this season in attempts to grow numbers involved in the game at a social level as well as providing opportunities for players to develop their skills.

Falkirk President, Matt Dodd, said: “Personally, I am delighted that Falkirk have been presented with this award, and I know the feeling is felt throughout the club. It only adds to what has been a successful season and an outstanding year of club rugby.

It is great that everyone at the club has been recognised for all of their hard work, effort and commitment and I’m sure it will lead to further success both on and off the pitch.”

Falkirk’s youth section have also impressed this season with their under-18 squad narrowly losing out to Aberdeen Grammar in the Caledonia Bowl final before claiming the Kirkcaldy 7s title a week later.

The club’s junior teams played in this season’s Scottish Rugby’s Schools and Youth Conference programme and finished fifth in the Club Youth Green Conference.

The development of girls’ rugby at Falkirk has also gathered momentum this season with an under-15 team competing in the West Girls’ League for the first time. There are plans now in place to run a team at both under-15 and under-18 next season.

Mini rugby at the club has grown this year with several teams taking part in tournaments and benefiting from competitive rugby.

Dodd said: “The mini section is our biggest success this season in terms of growing numbers. As a result of running open days and events around the Rugby World Cup, we have boosted our numbers significantly and now have around 80 players between P1 and P7.”

A strong development programme is in place at Falkirk through their partnership with a Scottish Rugby Club Development Officer.

A Club Academy helps to bring players through and a Business Development Officer is in place to strengthen the club’s engagement with sales and marketing, with Falkirk now one of the most active clubs across social media.

Falkirk’s engagement with coaching is also impressive, with the club recently hosting a UKCC Level 2 course and a core of regular coaches frequently attending regional coaching development events.

“Looking to the future, the club’s commitment is to not just strengthen and maintain what we are currently doing but to provide facilities and infrastructure to give our players the opportunity to play quality rugby and represent Falkirk,” Dodd added.

In winning the award, Falkirk will receive a prize of the value of £1000, through a 12-month BT Sport subscription and £200 cash. They will also win a table for 10 at the Scottish Rugby Club Awards Dinner on Friday 27 May, and will be subsidised £500 for travel expenses to this event. Falkirk will also be in the shortlist for the BT Club of the Year award, to be announced at the dinner.
