Coach Lear shares his thought on last week victory against Musselburgh and this Saturday's trip to Livingston

The match versus Musselburgh lived up to the pre match billing of being a tight and hard fought match with both teams keenly aware of what was at stake. The game did not disappoint. A healthy crowd attended Sunnyside to see two evenly matched teams go for a much needed win.

We were dealt a blow early on when we lost fullback Alex Penman to injury, devastating for Alex and the team but the boys did not lose focus and continued to dominate the 1st half running in two great tries and a healthy half time advantage.

Musselburgh came out all guns blazing in the 2nd half and threw everything and the kitchen sink at us and although we conceded a soft try early on our defence was strong and we came away with the victory. Looking at the overall game our defence was outstanding and that made a huge difference to our performance, particularly against their very dangerous back line. In our game earlier in the season our defence was a weakness for us, so it was really pleasing to see the lads rectify it, this time around.

Looking ahead to this weekend game, we have a short trip to Livingston and another important game. Last Saturday for the first time since the beginning of the season we nearly had a full squad to pick from which made a real difference for the coaching staff, but like our season so far we are again blighted by injuries and unavailability. This season has taught us that we have depth in the squad and again we will be calling upon some players to step up to the plate and perform.

Livingston have had a tough season so far but with a young enthusiastic squad, they will pose a tough challenge to us as they did when we played them at Sunnyside. We will again be looking for the same determination and commitment from our boys as they showed last Saturday.

We hope to see a strong travelling support again, I keep saying this every week but hearing the shouts for Falkirk inspires the boys.
