Tough game for Sunnyside
Sunnyside have at times this season played like they just didn't want to be on the pitch. Last week away to Hillfoots was a prime example.
The performance today however showed that there is spirit, fight and desire in this Sunnyside team. And with some hard work on the training field the rewards will eventually pay off.
When Falkirk kept hold of possession, their forwards dominated the field of play. The under 19 rule regarding scrumaging is seriously hampering our game play. A big aggressive pack and star performances by Stuart Serefini, Dale Ashworth and Callum Martin worked very well. The County pack, like many others this season simply did not know how to stop it.
once the defense was drawn in, the backs took advantage and played some fine running rugby.
You would think that from reading this far Falkirk had won the match. We didn't The final score being 69-41 to Stirling County. I can't say which Stirling County though as it clearly wasn't the team that had been getting skelped every week this season. There were mumblings of a few more 'experienced' players in their back line. Whoever they were though, it was the County back line that made the difference in the final score.
County played with a team of young, fast backs and their game plan was to run round us. They achieved this very well and in the end ran up a serious amount of points against Falkirk. Achieving their first home victory of the season.
That said, Falkirk didn't let the heads drop. They dug in, fought back with some hard work and support play and salvaged a much needed bonus point. Peter Hamilton in his first run out for Falkirk showed that he will be a very good addition to the squad. And Ruari Pearson played some of his best rugby in years. (It must be the baggy shorts!)
All the lads played well. But work will have to be focused on the re-alignment of the team on the defense. County took advantage of this and proved deadly with their scoring.
County deserved the win to be fair. They were quicker, fitter, supported better and ran plays off a very good No.10. But Falkirk didn't give up. Perhaps we just played them at the wrong time of year.
A good game to watch for all. Lets build on the performance and learn from our mistakes. Take it forward to next weeks Perthshire game and get a win.
