Falkland beat Aberdeenshire by 4 wkts (D/L)
While other games in the CSL Eastern Premier League were being abandoned or delayed because of rain affected grounds, thanks to an outstanding effort by the Falkland Committee and members, this game was able to start as planned at 1pm. It was also the day in the Season that Falkland Cricket Club thanked their sponsors. Falkland won the toss and asked the visitors to bat first. Aberdeenshire were only able to score slowly thanks to good bowling from Alan Hamilton and Aaron Paul together with keen fielding from their Falkland team mates.
Unfortunately, the innings was interrupted by a heavy rain shower but play was able to resume with a reduced number of overs (46) for each side. Aberdeenshire completed their innings with 146 runs for 9 wickets. Aberdeenshire Captain Venske top scoring with 32 and Falklands Aaron Paul finishing with figures of 4 for 18. Harsha Cooray had figures of 2 for 33.
Through the vagaries of the Duckworth Lewis Stern calculation, Falkland were presented with a target of 149 to win. They reached this target easily in under 37 overs thanks to Harsha Cooray's 78 not out. Aberdeenshire's Ian Kirk returned figures of 3 for 8.
The match certainly entertained and enthralled the Falkland sponsors. In form Heriots are Falkland's next opponents.
