Falkland beat Perth Doocot by 7 wkts
Falkland took another step towards winning the Strathmore Union with a competent victory over a Perth Doocot side which gave up long before the end in a way that surprised spectators.
Falkland won the toss and invited the Perth side to bat first. Their total of 190 owed a great deal to the stalwart innings of Rizwan Akbar who scored 51, but it could have been a great deal less but for a Falkland fielding performance which was rather disappointing. The pick of the bowlers was Darren Pearce with 3 for 36, but credit must also be given to Lyle Robertson and Ben Strachan for the way they kept the score down.
Falkland lost an early couple of wickets and at 32 for 2, the game was in the balance, but Harsha Cooray, first with Geordie Gallagher in support and then with Ben Strachan, took command and long before the end, the Perth side had thrown in the towel.
Falkland with only three games left are within touching distance of winning the League. Next week they go to Dundee High School, but the week after that sees the arrival at Falkland of Stoneywood-Dyce, the strongest challengers. That promises to be an interesting game.
