Dave Wheaton hands over Captains armband to focus on Coaching

“A true Heathens” Bernie Rhodes
Dave Wheaton has decided to hand over the 1st XV Captains armband and focus on coaching for the rest of the season. Worry not, Dave will still be playing too but he now wants to focus on Coaching and developing the senior squad of players.
Dave said "I have had a great time as Captain over the last few seasons but sometimes you realise that you are trying to do too much and the time is right for change. I am having a great time and really enjoying coaching the Seniors and by passing the Captains armband on it will allow me to focus ever more energy on developing the players. I also will have Nick Davis as joint Head Coach and we will be a great team together. I am not giving up playing and intend carrying on as a player as long as I can. I would have loved to have signed off with a win against USP on Saturday but it was just not our day, albeit everyone in attendance said we should have won. I ended up with 10 stitches in my face instead. Not sure if I will be called 'gash' or 'scarface' from now on.
DOR Bernie Rhodes said "Dave has been and continues to be a great servant and ambassador for the Club. Dave has been at Heathens for almost 20 years starting off on the wing and gradually making his way into the second row. Many people do not see the effort Dave puts in year in year out for the club. I am really pleased that he has taken to coaching like a 'duck to water' and I know he will be around for many years to come as his enjoyment for the game prevails. Dave is often misunderstood but when you get to know him as well as I have over the last few years you gain insight into his passion for the game and Fareham Heathens.
Club Captain & Vice Captain, Rob Impey will take over as 1st XV Captain for the remainder of the 2017/18 season.
I am sure everyone will join me in thanking Dave for his leadership on the field and look forward to his efforts on the coaching paddock as well as the field of play, in taking Heathens to the next level.
