TOWN HIT FIVE AS UNBEATEN RUN CONTINUES
A dominant first half from Faversham laid the foundations for a convincing and emphatic victory.
An early chance for the Lilywhites. Liam King crosses low from the right to the near post, Jordan Casey attacks, but the defender does enough to force the ball for a corner.
Town dominate both possession and territory. But for the time being, the Casuals' defence holds firm, keeping Town at arms length.
A rare Casuals' chance. A George Monger tackle is adjudged a foul. From 35 yards, Max Fitzgerald's free-kick whistles past the left hand post. Will Godmon seems unperturbed and shepherds it out.
At the other end, Josh Stanford wriggles through the Casuals' defensive line, into the area and gets a shot away. Deflected, but still it bobbles around in the area. Appeals for hand-ball fall on deaf ears. The ball comes to Sam Bewick who slams his shot over the bar.
The Faversham pressure continues. Stanford from the left, threads a ball to Bewick on the right hand corner of the area. Bewick attempts to go past his man on the outside, a clumsy defensive challenge and the referee awards the penalty. Bewick steps up and firmly passes the ball into the right hand side of the goal, sending the keeper the wrong way for good measure. 1-0 (24 minutes).
Bewick from the right, arcs a low ball into the area. King reacts, races unchallenged behind a static Casuals' defence and fires home from close range beating the keeper at his right hand post. The keeper gets something on it, but it's not enough to stop the net bulging very satisfactorily. 2-0 (32 minutes).
Dan Carrington's long ball from midfield finds King outside of the area. King's touch and go takes him past his three defenders, into the area, but wide and right. The angle's tight, but King keeps his cool and calmly slots the ball home. 3-0 (41 minutes).
Casuals' defensive woes continue when King pounces on a shocker of a back pass. The centre-half spares his team mate's blushes by getting an important block in which deflects the shot for a corner.
3-0 at H-T.
If it wasn't already game over, it most definitely is within five minutes of the restart.
Bewick in possession on the right hand byline, drives past two Casuals defenders. Into the area, a simple pull back for Stanford who makes no mistake tucking the ball neatly past the keeper and inside the right hand post from eight yards. Clinical. 4-0 (50 minutes).
And game over. Surely. Well not quite.
Town, initially, continue to go forward. King and Monger between them win the ball in midfield. Monger finds a ball to release King bearing down on an unprotected keeper. The keeper comes to the edge of his area and makes a fine block.
Four goals to the good, Town take their foot off the pedal and Casuals start to enjoy territory, possession and notably chances.
A ball dinked into the Town penalty area finds Sol Pinnock one on one with Godmon. Godmon stands his ground and deflects Pinnock's flicked effort round the post for a corner.
A centre into the Town area from the left is met unchallenged by Casuals' right back Jim Fenlon. Fenlon simply gets a high boot on it and uses the ball's pace to redirect it into the left hand side of the net. 4-1 (63 minutes).
At the other end, a long clearance is headed backwards by Mobolaji Dawodu which releases Renford Tenyue into the area. Tenyue goes for power and the keeper makes a fine block with raised arms..
Casuals continue their resurgence. Pinnock gets into the Town area and a low angled strike towards the far post has Godmon stretching and going to ground. The block has good distance on it.
Ultimately the Casuals resergence runs out of steam. Not aided by captain Fitzgerald receiving a second yellow with 15 still to go. A game with eight yellows - it didn't seem that the fayre on offer warranted eight yellows.
But to finish on a high with the football, not a discussion of the card count.
Jamie Maxted plays a glorious ball from inside the Town half which releases Tenyue for a run in on the keeper. Tenyue approaches the keeper, goes round him with seeming ease and absolutely smashes the ball high into the net. A joyous and fitting way to celebrate a five goal haul. Glorious. 5-1 (87 minutes).
