Staplehurst Monarchs v Faversham Town Reserves

First defeat for Reserves, but plenty to look forward to from the young Lilywhites

Newly formed Faversham Town Reserves will be kicking off their first season together in division three of the Kent County League so an away pre season friendly against Premier side Staplehurst Monarchs would be a big test for the young Lilywhites. Much like Towns last game v Rochester City the Town had to soak up some early pressure in the first part of the game. But this young side learn quickly and took the lead with some neat passing Lee Benavente setting up George Greenway who's shot against the post fell kindly to Abdul-Raheem Sunmonu on the edge of the box for him to control and place in the goal for a classy finish Town 1-0 up with cheeky George claiming an assist. It didn't take Staplehurst long to pull a goal back to make it 1-1. Faversham not getting the rub of the green from the officials and the Monarchs showing why they are a Prem team turned it into a hard fought game.
It was Town who took the lead again through Nye Griffths causing Staplehurst problems all game with his tireless running down the flanks shooting from the right side giving the keeper no chance 2-1 up. Faversham enjoying their best spell of the game kept the lead for some time until the
Monarchs drew level again from a corner 2-2
Town keeper Jamie Mackrill pulled of a save for the cameras tipping a free kick over the bar which was destined for the top corner.
With Captain Rhys Leader asking the Town for another big push the Lilywhites delivered with Abdul again showing his pace and power down the left to hold off his marker for a neat finish from a tight angle 3-2 up. Town conceded twice more another corner which was poorly marked ,but considering the opposition and only four training sessions together these are areas where the Lilywhites can improve. Although four goals conceded the Faversham's defence played very well Town have showed with their pre season campaign so far that they can more than hold their own against higher opposition. On the whole a very good performance from the Young Reserves.

Thank you to Staplehurst Monarchs for hosting us and all the best for their season ahead.
