Faversham Town Reserves 1- 1 Deal Sports Res
R Leader ⚽️ 20’
Faversham Town Reserves made their second trip to Deal in the space of two weeks. This outing sore Town up against league leaders Deal Sports Harry Sheridan and club captain Rhys Leader back in the starting line up from their absence last week. Faversham Town Reserves kicked off confident of a good performance coming of the back of their impressive 5-0 win the previous week.Town didn’t disappoint taking the game to their opponents the front men of Joe Lester and Siya Ndebele seeing plenty of the ball in the early stages. Town made the breakthrough on the 20 minute mark Joe Lester rising in the Deal area to knock down his header to the feet of his captain Rhys Leader who brought the ball under control to see his shot hit the back of the Sports net 1-0 Faversham. Town looking comfortable but also well aware their host are the league leaders. Faversham limited Sports chances but needed Town Keeper Matt Bowey on call to pull off a fine full stretched save tipping over the Town bar. On 34 minutes Towns centre forward Joe Lester broke free raced clear of the trailing Deal defence beating the Deal Goalkeeper to the ball to see his shot narrowly miss the Sports goal the Deal Keeper flattening Lester in the mean time for a certain Faversham penalty unbelievably the referee didn't agree. Town disappointed they didn’t get the chance to double their lead just before going in at half time 1-1
The second half got underway with Town expecting a fight back from the league leaders which caused the game to became more stretched. Town still looking comfortable and worth their slight 1-0 advantage but with 63 minutes played Town needed a perfectly timed last ditch sliding tackle from the ever impressive Ryan ‘ Macca ‘ Mcdonald thwarting the Deal striker however 2 minutes after Sports did score the Deal right winger cutting back on the right wing to deliver a back post cross for the oncoming Deal attacker to head home
1-1. Town feeling aggrieved not winning a free kick leading up to the Deal goal. Nye Griffths with an impressive display at the back decided to look for the winning goal himself driving forward from defence skipping through several tackles into the area with the advancing keeper just nipping the ball from Griffiths. Final result 1-1 a good point for Town away v the league leaders but more importantly a very good team performance to carry on their good work from last week. Joe Lester led the Town line superbly up front but Nye Griffths Just edged the M.O.M award with a domineering display in the heart of the Faversham Town defence.
Thank you to Deal Sports for a good game of football and the after match hospitality.
